Appropriations Committee

The committee in each chamber that writes the annual spending bills. Its twelve subcommittees each own one bill and one slice of the government.

Appropriators decide how much every agency actually receives, within limits set by the budget resolution, and their bills carry the policy riders that ride along with the money. Because their product is must-pass, seats on the committee are among the most sought in Congress. Authorizing committees write the underlying programs; appropriators fund them.
