The location where voters in a precinct cast ballots in person on election day, staffed by trained poll workers and open to authorized observers.

Polling places are assigned by precinct, so voting at the wrong one can result in a ballot that is provisional or not counted at all. They are run by local election officials, usually at the county or township level, and staffed largely by temporary poll workers drawn from the community, which is why recruitment is a perennial administrative challenge.
