Each state's own founding document. They are longer, more detailed, and far easier to amend than the federal Constitution, and they can grant broader rights.

State constitutions organize state government and often address education funding, taxation, and local powers in detail. A state may protect a right more strongly than the federal Constitution does, but never less. Because many are amended by ballot measure, they change frequently, and Alabama's has been amended nearly a thousand times.
