Privacy Policy

Last updated August 9, 2026

Civibrief is operated by Civibrief LLC(North Carolina). Privacy is a core feature, not an afterthought. This policy explains what we collect and why. For a live, plain-language summary of what is and isn't stored, see Account & Privacy.

Browsing without an account

You can use Civibrief anonymously. We don't track the pages you view, run ad profiling, or use standard SaaS analytics. If you localize the app, the resolved jurisdiction is kept only in your browser session, we never store your precise location. Without an account your daily roundup and its read state stay in your browser and never reach our database.

Account data

If you create an account, we store your email, a hashed password (scrypt, never the plain password), and the preferences and saved items you choose to keep. You can export or permanently delete all of it at any time from Account & Privacy.

What a signed-in account records

Two things we keep for account holders are worth stating plainly, because they are a record of activity rather than a setting you chose.

  • Your daily roundup. One row per calendar day holds the set of records composed for you and the ids of the ones you opened. It exists so the day's stack can't shift while you read it, and so your streak can be counted. It is kept for as long as your account exists.
  • Account events. We log four actions against your account id: opening a roundup, marking an item read, finishing a day, and filing a correction. These carry no content ids, no search text, and no page paths. We also keep a single last-active timestamp on your account row, overwritten on each visit.

Both are removed when you delete your account. The live table at Account & Privacy lists these alongside everything else held under your account id.

Payments

Donations and memberships are processed by Stripe, Inc., our payment processor. Card details are entered on Stripe's secure systems; Civibrief never receives or stores your full card number. We keep a billing record, amounts, dates, status, Stripe identifiers, and the card's brand and last four digits (for your recognition), to provide your payment history, receipts, and required accounting. Stripe processes your payment data under its own privacy policy.

Data retention

When you delete your account, we cancel any active subscription, remove your customer record from Stripe, and delete your account data. We retain a de-identified record of completed payments (without your name, email, or account id) where required for tax and accounting, it can no longer be linked back to you.

Email

We send transactional email (verification, password reset, receipts via Stripe). Any future updates or digests are strictly opt-in and include one-click unsubscribe.

Your rights & contact

You can access, export, or delete your data from your account. For any privacy request, contact support@civibrief.com.
