diplomatic immunity
Protection from arrest and prosecution for accredited diplomats, under the Vienna Convention. It can be waived by the sending state, and diplomats can be expelled.

Immunity exists so diplomats can do their work without harassment by a host government, and it is reciprocal. Its scope varies by rank: full immunity for diplomatic agents, narrower protection for consular and administrative staff. A host state's remedies are to request a waiver or to declare the person persona non grata and expel them.
