The Supreme Court's stream of urgent orders decided without full briefing or argument, often quickly and sometimes without stated reasons.

Applications for stays, injunctions, and vacaturs arrive on an expedited basis, most often when a lower court has blocked or allowed a policy pending appeal. Rulings can be a single sentence, may not disclose the vote, and are technically interim, yet they can control national policy for years. Critics call it the shadow docket; the Court prefers emergency or interim docket.
